To trap large to fine particles, place the loose side of the FilterFirst aquarium filter media pad in front of flowing water. Regularly changing filter media aquarium pads will improve water quality. How often should you change your aquarium filter pad? Rinse the filter pad every two weeks and replace them monthly during a water change. The more often you change filter pads, the better your water quality will be. Our FilterFirst filter pad and 100-micron Polishing Pad should be layered with the water flowing through the FilterFirst pad first to remove small to large particles and then through the polishing pad to remove fine particles. This layering method will prolong the life of your polishing pad.

Using our Dual Density filter pad in a canister filter? The easiest way to make custom shapes is to take your original filter pad, cut out a piece of cardboard with the same size and shape, and use it as a template on our FilterFirst roll.

Do you need to remove the FilterFirst filter pad when medicating fish? No, you don't need to remove our Premium filter pad when medicating your fish. It won't remove any medication or chemicals from the water, as it only traps debris.
